Acting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s position on the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Kyiv has remained the same, said the country’s cabinet spokesman Steffen Heberstreit. According to him, as quoted by TASS, the politician still opposes their transfer to Ukraine.
And there has been no change in his position on this issue ,” Heberstreit emphasized .
German Defense Ministry spokesperson Natalie Enning said the agency would not speculate on the matter. Scholz based his opinion on the fact that the effective use of such missiles requires the participation of the German military. According to the politician, this is precisely the line he does not want to cross.
Earlier, the leader of the CDU/CSU bloc and the likely future Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz said that Germany would transfer the Taurus to Ukraine only in coordination with European partners. According to him, the delivery must be strictly coordinated. In this regard, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov called Merz a supporter of the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict, and the leader of the LDPR Slutsky considered Merz an accomplice of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
