The “Candle of Memory” event, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow and the 84th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, began on the night of Sunday, June 22, at the Victory Museum in Moscow, RIA Novosti reports. It is specified that before the start of the event, songs dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War were performed for those gathered.
Exactly at midnight, a minute of silence was observed in the square in front of the Victory Museum in memory of the fallen. Also, veterans of the Great Patriotic War lit a torch from the Flame of Memory and Glory and passed the flame to the participants of the event. In addition, those gathered lit exactly 1,418 candles – the number of days of the Great Patriotic War.
Earlier, State Duma Vice Speaker Irina Yarovaya, at a press conference dedicated to the 17th annual international event “Candle of Memory”, said that next year Russia will do everything to ensure that the event takes place on June 22 at exactly 04:00 Moscow time. According to her words, as reported by a NEWS.ru correspondent, at this time Russians ” definitely should not sleep “.
Before this, Yarovaya expressed the opinion that it is European politicians who are spreading the ideology of Nazism and trying to desecrate the “memory of the past.” The parliamentarian is sure that the march of Nazis in Kiev became possible only thanks to their actions.
