Rospatent has refused to register the trademark “I am Russian” to singer Yaroslav Dronov, known as SHAMAN, the Telegram channel Baza reports. It is noted that the refusal is preliminary and SHAMAN has the opportunity to challenge this decision. In case of a final refusal, he will be able to appeal to the Chamber of Patent Disputes or to court.
The applications for registration were filed in October last year. One of them concerned alcoholic products, and the other covered 17 categories of goods and services, including shampoos, bath foams, soaps, fragrances, hair gels, tooth powders, lipsticks, nail glitter and adult toys. According to Baza, the reason for the refusal was active opposition from State Duma deputies, representatives of the Veterans of Russia movement and other public organizations, who accused Dronov of trying to monopolize the “I am Russian” brand and the incompatibility of the release of alcoholic products with its proposed name.
Earlier, vodka producers from St. Petersburg stated that they intended to compete with SHAMAN for the brand “I am Russian”. According to the entrepreneurs, OOO Tsarev patented the brand “I am Russian! What a delight!” 15 years ago, and the phrase itself was borrowed from the military leader Alexander Suvorov.
